Chief Executive Officer
"Ever since being diagnosed with nearsightedness as a third grader and being amazed at how clearly I could see with my first pair of glasses the eyes have captured my interest. I was very much involved in photography throughout high school and college, loved the sciences, especially physics, so entering the eye care field was a very natural path to follow and I continue to enjoy every moment of it"
Dr. Richard Edlow began his career with Katzen Eye Group in 1979. Graduating from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1976, he went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he earned a degree in Visual Sciences in 1977 and Doctor of Optometry in 1980.
In addition to his role as the Chief Executive Officer at Katzen Eye Group, Dr. Edlow was Chairman of the American Optometric Association, Data & Information Committee for 15 years. As a member of the Maryland Optometric Association, he served as President from 1989-1991. He was voted Health Care Professional of the Year by the Governor's Committee on the Handicapped for the State of Maryland in 1989 and the Optometrist of the Year by the Maryland Optometric Association in 1992.
In the early 1980's, Dr. Edlow's efforts resulted in an integration of the optical services, primary care optometry and general ophthalmology, allowing Katzen Eye Group to be one of the first private practices to offer complete eye care services to the entire family. As a frequent author and lecturer, he is well recognized for his expertise in Eye Care Management Systems and Managed Care, Optometric/Ophthalmic Integration, Practice Development, and technology implementation in the ophthalmic practice.
Having lived in Baltimore all his life, he now resides in Pikesville with his wife of more than 30 years. In his free time, he enjoys bike riding, flying and visiting his two daughters and grandchildren.
