Studies have shown that over-exposure to the sun’s UV rays is linked to cataracts; a clouding of the eye’s lens that gradually reduces vision. To restore vision damaged by cataracts, the eye’s natural lens must eventually be removed and replaced with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL).
UVA rays are the most harmful as they are equally dangerous regardless of cloud cover and cannot be blocked by glass such as car windows.
