Guyana - Project Dawn
A team of eye care specialists headed by Dr. Leeds Katzen
and Dr. Brett Katzen, provided much needed medical and surgical
care to the people of Guyana, South America. The mission was
part of Project Dawn - Donors and Workers Now.
Dr. Leeds Katzen visited the children
every morning before surgery,
bringing them gifts of books and toys. |
Dr. Gannor assists patients who wil
be examined by the doctors during the
morning clinic. |
This organization is directed by Dr. Carmen Gannon, an internist
and nun, who assisted in the daily clinic. Over the weeks
of service in Guyana, the doctors Katzen examined hundreds
of patients and performed as many sight-saving and restoring
surgeries.
The doctors also provided medicines, instruments and basic
necessities to these very poor and deserving people.

Katzen along with Dr. Stuart Haman joined physicians
from various specialties on a humanitarian visit to
Havanna. This was a unique opportunity for Dr. Katzen
to share ideas with other doctors and to perform surgery
on some very deserving patients. |

Katzen Eye Group has taken part in many international missionary
efforts, we are also dedicated to offering educational insight
to the youth in our area. In 2000, Dr. Brett Katzen performed
laser vision correction on a local science teacher and in
2001 he visited a pre-school class to talk about his experiences
as a physician.
