Dr. Leeds Katzen, director and founder of the Katzen Eye Group, is recognized by colleagues and patients for his outstanding leadership in the field of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery.
Graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1964, he went on to complete an internship at Mercy Hospital in 1965 and a residency at University Hospital in 1968.
He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College and Chief of Ophthalmology at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
Best known for his expertise and pioneering efforts in cataract and laser surgery, intraocular lens implantation and radial keratotomy, he has taught and performed surgery in the United States, South America, Europe, Israel and Russia. He was a major force behind the Project Dawn mission in Guyana where he donated his surgical skills for those in need of medical care and facilities in 1989 and 1991.
As a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Dr. Katzen is a member and fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, the French Society of Ophthalmology, and the International College of Surgeons in Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Katzen is specialty certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery since 1991. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, has been published in several prestigious medical journals and has been listed in both editions of "Best Doctors in America."
Dr. Katzen is extremely proud of the tradition of excellence the Katzen Eye Group has maintained for more than 30 years. His dedication to providing the ultimate in total eye care to each and every patient has been the standard of the practice since 1968.
Born in Baltimore, Dr. Katzen now resides in Pikesville with his wife of 40 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. He has a special interest in exercise and nutrition and enjoys spending his free time golfing and reading self-help books.
