Meet Our Doctors
Preparing to follow in his father's footsteps, Dr. Brett Katzen obtained his undergraduate degree from University of Delaware, graduating magna cum laude in 1984. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1988 and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Brett officially joined the Katzen Eye Group in 1992, although he was a familiar sight at the practice long before then.
Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1993, Dr. Katzen serves as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is specialty board certified in cataract surgery by The American Board of Eye Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. In addition, he has successfully completed The Wharton School, Executive Management Program, in 1996 and 2000.
Dr. Katzen is a leading force in laser vision correction. As a dedicated surgeon, he is devoted to the treatment of nearsightedness and farsightedness. He has been acknowledged for achievements in developing a specialized surgical instrument called the "Katzen Flap Unzipper," commonly used with LASIK procedures throughout the United States. In addition, he has donated his surgical expertise by teaching and performing cataract surgery in Guyana, South America, Cuba, Israel, the United States and Europe.
Dr. Katzen is recognized by his patients and colleagues as a leader and innovator in cataract and implant surgery. He is on the forefront of the latest technological advances, including multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), which frequently permit one to see near, far, and in between, without dependence upon glasses after cataract surgery. Dr. Katzen is nationally recognized for his expertise in correcting astigmatism (a condition in which one's eyes are not perfectly spherical or round, resulting in less than adequate vision). With his use of lasers, special high tech IOLs, and innovative techniques, Dr. Katzen frequently corrects patients' vision to better than they have ever seen — without glasses.

Dr. Leeds Katzen, director and founder of the Katzen Eye Group, is recognized by colleagues and patients for his outstanding leadership in the field of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery.
Graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1964, he went on to complete an internship at Mercy Hospital in 1965 and a residency at University Hospital in 1968.
He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College and Chief of Ophthalmology at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
Best known for his expertise and pioneering efforts in cataract and laser surgery, intraocular lens implantation and radial keratotomy, he has taught and performed surgery in the United States, South America, Europe, Israel and Russia. He was a major force behind the Project Dawn mission in Guyana where he donated his surgical skills for those in need of medical care and facilities in 1989 and 1991.
As a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Dr. Katzen is a member and fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, the French Society of Ophthalmology, and the International College of Surgeons in Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Katzen is specialty certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery since 1991. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, has been published in several prestigious medical journals and has been listed in both editions of "Best Doctors in America."
Dr. Katzen is extremely proud of the tradition of excellence the Katzen Eye Group has maintained for more than 30 years. His dedication to providing the ultimate in total eye care to each and every patient has been the standard of the practice since 1968.
Born in Baltimore, Dr. Katzen now resides in Pikesville with his wife of 40 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. He has a special interest in exercise and nutrition and enjoys spending his free time golfing and reading self-help books.

Dr. Peter Lapinsky joined Katzen Eye Group in 1984. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Colgate University and earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1980. After completing an internship at Mercy Hospital, he began a residency at the University of Maryland, serving as Chief Resident from 1983-1984.
As a board certified ophthalmologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Lapinsky serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition, he is an attending Professor of Ophthalmology with the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. A member of many professional societies, he is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgeons as well as a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Lapinsky is a well-respected ophthalmologist, specializing in refractive and laser vision correction procedures as well as cataract surgery. His experience in refractive surgery dates back to 1984, encompassing the surgical techniques for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. As a dedicated cataract surgeon, Dr. Lapinsky has continually refined the small incision Phacoemulsification procedure.

Dr. Lapinsky and his wife currently reside in Ruxton. He is an avid golfer and enjoys cycling and swimming. In his free time he is rarely without a book in his hands.

Dr. Donna Booth joined the Katzen Eye Group as an associate physician in 1994. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton Virginia, where she received an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1977. After completing medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1981, she furthered her education with an Ophthalmology Selective program at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Her residency training included an internal medicine internship at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, as well as an ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine where she served as Chief Resident from 1985-1986.
As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Medical & Chirurgical Society of Maryland, Dr. Booth is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in consultative ophthalmology and cataract surgery.
Growing up on a farm in Penhook, Virginia, she continues with her mother, in the family's farming tradition, breeding Angus cattle, thoroughbreds and participates in flat racing and Three Day Eventing. She spends much of her free time with her horses and enjoys cooking, reading and traveling.

Dr. Adler completed a Corneal, Refractive and External Disease Fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He brings a new level of expertise to the practice by providing advanced corneal care to our patients. After graduating from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Richard went on to complete his residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute. As a resident, Dr. Adler's research interests included intraocular lens design and function, as well as ocular infectious disease. Dr. Adler has completed advanced training in non-surgical cosmetic procedures and has studied under the guidance of international pioneers in the field of cosmetic injections.
Dr. Adler graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and was a member of the University Scholars Program. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. Richard, his wife and children reside in Baltimore. In his free time, he enjoys travel, piano and classical ballet.

Dr. Marcic joined Katzen Eye Group in 2007. She was born in Takoma Park, MD, and went on to receive her medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1998. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1996, as part of their six-year biomedical program. Dr. Marcic then completed her medical internship at Mount Sinai at Elmhurst Hospital Center in 1999. Subsequently she completed her ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, in Queens, NY, while serving as chief resident in 2002. Her training was completed by a glaucoma subspecialty fellowship at George Washington University, in Washington, DC, in 2003.
Dr. Marcic is dedicated to the surgical and therapeutic management of glaucoma and has authored numerous posters, presentations, and papers on the subject. She is actively involved in teaching residents these techniques. Her memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Glaucoma Society.
In her spare time, Dr. Marcic enjoys the home arts, recreational athletics, music, and spending time with her husband and children.

Dr. Richard Edlow began his career with Katzen Eye Group in 1979. Graduating from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1976, he went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he earned a degree in Visual Sciences in 1977 and Doctor of Optometry in 1980.
In addition to his role as the Chief Operating Officer at Katzen Eye Group, Dr. Edlow is the Chairman of the American Optometric Association, Data & Information Committee. As a member of the Maryland Optometric Association, he served as President from 1989-1991. He was voted Health Care Professional of the Year by the Governor's Committee on the Handicapped for the State of Maryland in 1989 and the Optometrist of the Year by the Maryland Optometric Association in 1992.
In the early 1980's, Dr. Edlow's efforts resulted in an integration of the optical services, primary care optometry and general ophthalmology, allowing Katzen Eye Group to be one of the first private practices to offer complete eye care services to the entire family. As a frequent author and lecturer, he is well recognized for his expertise in Eye Care Management Systems and Managed Care, Optometric/Ophthalmic Integration, Practice Development, and technology implementation in the ophthalmic practice.
Having lived in Baltimore all his life, he now resides in Pikesville with his wife of more than 30 years. In his free time, he enjoys bike riding, flying and visiting his two daughters at college.

Dr. Ross Bregel has been an associate of Katzen Eye Group as well as practicing full time at his office in South Baltimore since becoming an optometrist. After earning his bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Maryland, he graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1983.
An active member of the Maryland Optometric Association, he also belongs to the American Optometric Association and the Greater Baltimore Optometric Society. He specializes in primary care optometry, contact lenses and pediatric care.
A native of Maryland, Dr. Bregel resides in Towson with his wife of more than 20 years, and his three children. He enjoys spending his free time boating, fishing, golfing, playing tennis and coaching little league.

Dr. Diane Golub has been a part of the Katzen Eye Group for more than 19 years. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Biology. She went on to attend the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry in 1989.
A member of the American Optometric Association and Maryland Optometric Association, Dr. Golub specializes in contact lenses, pediatric optometry and optical management of intraocular lenses.
As a native of Maryland, Dr. Golub lives with her husband, Jeffrey and their two sons, Holden and Brent. In her free time she enjoys cooking, entertaining, traveling and antiquing.

Dr. Gary Baziz has been a member of the optometric staff at Katzen Eye Group for nearly ten years. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1987, he went on to Southern College of Optometry where he earned his optometry degree in 1991.
As a member of both the Maryland Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, Dr. Baziz specializes in all phases of primary eye care, including keratoconus, toric and rigid gas permeable contact lenses as well as diagnosing and managing eye diseases.
Born in Baltimore in 1965, Dr. Baziz enjoys golf, weight lifting, travel and classical guitar.

Dr. Martin Novey joined our growing team of optometrists in January 1995. He received his undergraduate degree in Natural Science at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he earned a bachelor's degree in Visual Science in 1991 and Doctor of Optometry in 1994.
Dr. Novey is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Greater Baltimore Optometry Association. He also serves as the Clinical Advisor for the Katzen Eye Group Optometric Externship Program, adjunct faculty at Southern College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry and instructor for CCBC Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program. He specializes in primary care optometry and pre and post operative management of cataracts.
Born in Clearfield, a small town in Pennsylvania, he learned dedication and a high standard of excellence while working in his family business. He enjoys camping, motorcycling and travel.

Dr. Eric Williams joined Katzen Eye Group in 1998. He attended Johns Hopkins University where he received his bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1992. He earned a degree in Visual Sciences and Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1998.
He is currently a member of both the American Optometric Association and the Maryland Optometric Association. Dr. Williams specializes in comprehensive eye care, as well as pre- and post–operative care of both cataract and laser vision correction patients.
During college, Dr. Williams was a star defensive back on the Johns Hopkins football team. In his free time, he enjoys riding motorcycles, weight lifting, and listening to music.

Dr. Francisco Burgos joined Katzen Eye Group in 2003. Dr. Burgos earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts in 1989 and went on to become an Optometrist, graduating from the New England College of Optometry in 1994.
Specializing in pre and post-operative LASIK care, he has become an integral part of Katzen Eye Group's laser vision correction division. His previous experience as the Clinical Director of TLC Laser Eye Center in Towson, Maryland, brings expertise to patient candidacy and complex case management.
Along with his responsibilities with laser vision correction, Dr. Burgos fills a key role in managing medical optometric care in both the Towson and Mercy locations. As a Primary Care Resident at the Beetham Eye Institute of the Joslin Diabetes Center, he gained critical knowledge in treating diabetic eye conditions.
In his free time, Dr. Burgos enjoys working out, golf and SCUBA diving.

Dr. Gormley joined Katzen Eye Group in 2007. She attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County, studying Biology, and received her Bachelor of Science in Optometry as well as Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She currently works with the optometry students at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry as the doctor liaison of the MOA. Dr. Gormley is active in the optometric community as a member of the Maryland Optometric Society and serves as chair of the young optometrist committee, as well as a member of the Greater Baltimore Optometric Society and the American Optometric Association.
As a native of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Dr. Gormley enjoys the beach as well as volunteer work, music and theater.

Joining Katzen Eye Group in 2008, Dr. MacQuaid-McCartney is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Missouri, graduating with honors. Her internship and residency training was at the Indiana University, where she served as chief resident.
Dr. MacQuaid-McCartney completed a Cosmetic and Reconstructive Oculoplastic Surgery Fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She brings a new level of expertise to the practice by providing experience in facial plastic surgery, orbital reconstruction, functional eyelid repair, basic/complex Oculoplastics and complex facial trauma. Dr. MacQuaid-McCartney also has completed advanced training in non-surgical cosmetic procedures including BOTOX and other dermal fillers. Her interests extend into research, having published many articles and presenting at national meetings.
She is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Emily, in her free time, enjoys running and playing tennis.
